Questo è il primo post
dell'anno, quindi tanti auguri di buon anno a tutti, per prima cosa. Non
aggiorno il blog né la mia gallery su DeviantArt da un po' di tempo e sono
felice di farlo ora con un disegno interamente realizzato a matita e che ha
richiesto un'immensa quantità di lavoro.
L'illustrazione che segue
raffigura uno dei molti e pittoreschi personaggi che, nel corso degli anni, ho
ideato come protagonisti di una saga "dark fantasy", Age
of Doom, alla quale ho aggiunto tasselli sotto forma di disegni, fumetti,
racconti, avventure per giochi di ruolo (dal vivo e non).
Il personaggio qui
raffigurato si chiama Zebulon ed è un mago.
Pezzi di armatura
ricoprono le sue braccia e le sue gambe, ma non il suo torace, nel quale pulsa
un cuore che nessun metallo deve schermare, affinché nessun artefatto dell'Uomo
si frapponga fra il mago e il bersaglio dei suoi incantesimi, ovvero i demoni
partoriti dalla terra suppurante dell'Età della Condanna. Allo stesso modo, il
canale che scorre tra la mente del mago ed il suo nemico non deve essere
ostruito da elmi o protezioni artificiali.
Oltre a padroneggiare
alcuni degli innumerevoli sentieri della Magia di Desperia, Zebulon è un vero e
proprio pentacolo vivente, la cui anima è protetta dal proprio
stesso corpo, come fosse racchiusa in un cerchio di protezione. Ciò non
impedisce ai demoni di sfogare la propria violenza sul corpo martoriato di
questo coriaceo mago combattente, come dimostrano le sue numerose ferite, ma
Zebulon è aiutato dalla sua lancia da cavalleria, disseminata di iscrizioni
angeliche, e da un artefatto meccanico semi-senziente, fabbricato in una landa
misteriosa popolata da esseri sinistri, la Città Meccanica di Eisenburg.
Il motivo a spirale che
solca la lancia da cavaliere, unito alla peculiare forma dell’arma,
contribuisce ad incanalare il potere delle invocazioni angeliche, che raggiunge
lo zenit quando la punta della lancia viene conficcata nelle carni dei demoni,
ustionandole, lacerandole e infettandole con il verbo sacro che è intollerabile
alle schiere del Maligno.
Pervaso dalla Furia dello
Zelota, non dissimile dallo spasmo che ha animato figure leggendarie quali
Arthur Pendragon o Cú Chulainn, Zebulon impugna con forza sovrumana la sua
lancia, rendendola letale anche senza bisogno di portare l'attacco da una
cavalcatura, mentre il Guanto Meccanico di Eisenburg, è in grado di
connettersi al sistema nervoso del mago forandone il corpo e avvinghiandosi al
suo stesso essere.
Insomma, un personaggio
assurdo e bizzarro per un disegno altrettanto "strano", ma che spero
possa incontrare il vostro favore. Per i pochi iniziati alla saga di Age of
Doom, segnalo le raffigurazioni della testa della statua di Re Barlan
Swordless, di un mandato di cattura ai danni di Lancelot Kane, affisso ad un
albero, e della tomba di Jethro Lumlo, padre di Luther. Nell'angolo superiore
sinistro del disegno, vi è uno dei temibili e sinistri angeli che compaiono
anche nelle storie di Padre Stone.

This is the first post of
the year, so happy new year to everyone! I did not updated the blog or my
gallery on DeviantArt for a while and I'm happy to do it now, with a picture
entirely made in pencil which required an immense amount of work.
The following illustration shows one of the many colorful characters who I created over the years as protagonists of a "dark fantasy" saga, Age of Doom, which I added pieces to in the form of drawings, comics, short stories, adventures for role-playing games (both live-action or tabletop).
The guy shown here is called Zebulon and is a magician.
Pieces of armour cover his arms and legs, but not his chest, in which beats an heart that has to have no metal shield on it. In this way, no artifact of Man stands in the way between the magician and the target of his spells, the demons born from the festering earth of the Age of Doom. Similarly, the channel that runs through the mind of the magician and his enemy must not be obstructed by artificial caps or helmets.
In addition to his mastering of some of the many trails in the Magic of Desperia, Zebulon is a real living pentagram, whose soul is protected by his own body, as if he is inside a circle of protection. This does not prevent the demons to vent their violence on the battered body of this magician and tough fighter, as evidenced by his numerous injuries, but Zebulon is helped by his cavalry lance, full of angelic markings, and a mechanical, semi-sentient artefact, built in a land populated by mysterious beings, the Mechanical Town of Eisenburg.
The spiral motif that runs through the lance, combined with the peculiar shape of the weapon, helps to channel the power of the angelic invocations, which reaches its zenith when the tip of the spear is stuck in the flesh of the demons, burning, tearing and infecting it with the Sacred Word that is unacceptable to the legions of Evil.
Pervaded by the fury of the Zealot, not different from the spasm that inspired legendary figures such as Arthur Pendragon, or Cú Chulainn, Zebulon holds his spear with superhuman strength, making it lethal without the need to bring the attack from a mount, while the Mechanical Glove of Eisenburg is able to connect to the nervous system of the mage, by piercing his body and clinging to his very being.
A bizarre and absurd character for a "strange" drawing, but which I hope will meet your favor. For the few versed in the saga of Age of Doom, I highlight the representations of the head of the statue of King Barlan Swordless, an arrest warrant against Lancelot Kane, affixed to a tree, and the tomb of Jethro Lumlo, father of Luther. In the upper left corner of the drawing there is one of the formidable and sinister angels also appearing in Father Stone’s stories.
